Anthropic has opened a waitlisted research preview of Claude Duet for US Pro and Max subscribers. Duet checks connected work every few hours, can start a morning brief, and continues tasks in a cloud virtual machine after the user’s device is off. It carries over Claude memory, skills, and connected apps.

The useful pattern is a clear boundary between preparation and action. Duet can read, draft, and organize work in the background. It pauses before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting items. Trading securities and moving money between accounts stay blocked. Teams building proactive agents should set these boundaries before designing notifications or screens.

The limits will shape trust. Team and Enterprise plans are excluded, background checks consume existing usage limits, and users cannot watch or take over the browser. Anthropic warns that Duet may misread threads, miss events between checks, or misjudge urgency. Start with one reversible workflow. Measure false alerts, missed events, rejected approvals, correction time, usage cost, and whether people keep the feature enabled.
